THE ART OF QI GONG
Qi Gong (pronounced Chee-Gong) is an ancient Chinese practice that is approximately 5,000 years old, if not older. Originally thought to be practiced by shamans who were observing and imitating animals and the elements of nature, Qi Gong eventually was practiced by ancient Chinese farmers, physicians, patients, monks, nuns, soldiers and royalty. Enduring through hundreds and thousands of years of secrecy and cultural revolution, today Qi Gong is practiced by all types of individuals all over the world. Qi Gong is based on principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Eastern philosophy, and is comprised of flowing mindful movement, static postures, focused intention, meditation, and gentle breathing to enhance physical and mental well-being. Qi Gong focuses on cultivating and harmonizing the body's vital energy, or "Qi," by promoting relaxation, reducing stress, balancing emotions, calming the mind, and increasing energy- while also cultivating flexibility, balance, strength and greater connection to the natural world.
